Timing Marriage from Navamsa Clues - Part I

The basic horoscope is a combination of two charts, the Rasi and the Navamsa. Though the Rasi by far is the more important of the two, the Navamsa enjoys a status that the remaining Shodasavargas or sub-divisional charts do not attract. The Rasi chart has all the Shodasavargas inbuilt into it, yet the Navamsa has always been given prominence by placing it beside the Rasi chart unlike the other sub-divisional charts. The logic of this tradition is difficult to gauge.

According to Parasara in the chapter Vargavivechanadhyaya(Brihat Parasara Hora. Chap VIII-3), नवांशे कलत्राणां ) Chelan' or the Navamsa is to be looked into for all matters related to the spouse. The 7th house is given prominence over all marital details in the Rasi chart. This house which is in direct opposition to the Ascendant is deemed to be complementary to the Ascendant (the most important point in the chart) and planets in the 7th or otherwise influencing the 7th are deemed to either add to or detract from the strength of the Ascendant and thereby of the entire chart itself. Since the 7th house gains so much importance in the making or marring of the basic chart, the Navamsa whose main signification or content equates with that of the 7th house finds a complementary place beside the Rasi chart.

The Navamsa chart can sometimes, in cases when marriage is elusive in the sense the Rasi chart does not help give a clear picture, be effectively used to time marriage. Once the Dasa has been determined on the basis of the Rasi chart, the Navamsa chart can be examined for identifying the Bhukti that is most likely to give marriage. It has been found in many cases that marriage is likely in:-
(a)The Bhukti whose lord is in Shashtashtaka with the Dasa lord in Navamsa
The Shashtashtaka position is found to show a dislodgement or displacement under general principles of predictive astrology ad such displacement can be of place or of status. Therefore in the present context if the Dasa and Bhukti lord are in Shashtashtaka in Rasi or Navamsa, it can bring about a change in status from being single to married.
(b)The Bhukti of the Navamsa Ascendant lord
Since the Navamsa is primarily concerned with marital matters, the rising Navamsa assumes importance in judgement of such details. The period of the lord of the rising Navamsa should therefore assume a prominent role in this context.
(c)The Bhukti of the lord of the setting or 7th Navamsa
Since the 7th- house rules marriage, planets associated with the 7th house in Navamsa may be deemed to have a say in marital matters. The 7th lord in the Navamsa or the ruler of the setting Navamsa becomes qualified to confer marriage.
(d)The Bhukti of the Atmakaraka
The Atmakaraka as defined by Jaimini as the planet with the maximum longitude in the sign of occupation is a factor that cannot be overlooked in interpretation. The sign of occupation by the Atmakaraka gets special status in Navamsa as Karakamsa and therefore, the period of such a planet may also be deemed to be significant for purposes of timing marriage.
(e) The Bhukti of a planet in Karakamsa
Karakamsa is an important factor in several ways. Sometimes, it is treated on par with the Ascendant and therefore, many of the rules of predictive astrology that apply to a chart with reference to the Rasi Ascendant as a focal point can also be applied equally effectively with reference to Karakamsa.

Chart 1: Male: Born August 20, 1944 at 7h. 11m. (1ST) at 18 N 59, 72 E 60 with a balance of 12 years 1 month 15 days of Venus Dasa at birth.
chart1

The 7th house in Chart 1 is aspected by the Ascendant lord Sun, Vargottama benefic Jupiter, 12th lord Moon and Kalatrakaraka Venus which does not seem to show a late marriage. Additionally, 7th lord Saturn is in the 11th house and this is no delaying factor. Let us examine this chart applying the rules generally followed in predicting marriage and then move on to an examination of the Navamsa chart.

Rule 1: The Dasa of the planet in the 7th or aspecting the 7th or owning the 7th house becomes a strong contender in conferring marriage.
The 7th house being vacant, the Sun, Jupiter, Moon and Venus as aspecting the 7th house and Saturn as 7th lord become qualified to be the Dasa lord for marriage.
Venus Dasa ended at 12 years, Sun Dasa ended at 18 years, Moon Dasa at 28 years, Jupiter Dasa was to start in 1997, Saturn Dasa was to start in 2013 and Mercury Dasa in 2032.
Venus Dasa gets over in childhood. Saturn and Mercury are too late to show marriage. And we must remember the chart is not one that can be classified as coming under delayed marriage. Moon Dasa between 18 to 28 years appears to be the most appropriate.

Rule II A: Find out the stronger of the:-
(a)Lord of Rasi occupied by the 7th lord or the sign-dispositor of the 7th lord.
The 7th lord Saturn being in Gemini, such planet is Mercury in Chart 1.
(b)Lord of Navamsa occupied by 7th lord or the Navamsa sign-dispositor of 7th lord.
The 7lh lord Saturn being in Aquarius Navamsa, it is Saturn again.
The stronger of the two becomes eligible for timing marriage. Between Saturn and Mercury, Saturn who is already qualified as 7th lord becomes better bet. Also to be noted is the relative deficiency in strength of Mercury being in a junctional or cuspal degree.

Rule II B: The period of (a) Venus or (b) Moon
Therefore, Mercury, Saturn [Rule 11(a) and (b)] and Venus and Moon [Rule IIB, (a) and (b)] can be Dasa lords conferring marriage. Of these, Mercury and Saturn and Venus get eliminated by reason of their occurrence at too old an age or too young an age. The Moon is thef only qualified planet left to confer marriage.

Rule III: The sign-dispositor of the 2nd lord, of the planet joining the 7th lord as also the 9th and 10th lords.
The 2nd lord Mercury is in own sign and the 7th lord Saturn has no association. The 9th and 10th lords are Mars and Venus respectively. Of these, Mercury and Venus have been eliminated. Only Mars remains as contender. The Dasas now available for giving marriage are of the Moon (18 to 28 years) and of Mars ( 28 to 35 years). Since the chart shows early marriage, the Moon Dasa may be deemed more qualified in this context.

The Bhukti can be of any one of these planets.
Rule 1: Venus, Sun, Moon, Jupiter and Saturn.
Rule II: Mercury. Saturn, Venus, Moon.
Rule III: Mercury, Venus and Mars.
That is. the Bhuktis of Moon, Mars, Jupiter. Saturn. Mercury, Venus and the Sun are contenders now in Moon Dasa.

Marriage took place in March 1968 in Saturn Bhukti of Moon Dasa. The Moon favorably placed aspects the 7th house. Saturn is the 7th lord. In Navamsa we find the Dasa lord Moon and and Bhukti lord Saturn are in Shashtashtaka or 6-8 positions which brought in a change in status from bachelorhood to married man. Additionally, we may note the Bhukti lord Saturn is the Navamsa 7th lord placed in the 7th in Aquarius further supporting the Bhukti in conferring marriage. Taking Jupiter's transit as important, his movement through Leo assumes significance since the sign holds the Ascendant, Janma Rasi, Dasa lord Moon and Kalatrakaraka Venus as well as natal Jupiter in Rasi.

Reverting to the Navamsa, the Dasa lord Moon in Virgo has Saturn and Ketu in Shashtashtaka positions from him. Between the two, Saturn as Rasi 7th lord becomes more qualified to show marriage. The Bhukti lord Saturn as the Navamsa 7th lord as well scores over Ketu. Now transpose the transits on to the Navamsa chart. Transit wise, the Nodal axis is across the Navamsa Moon who also happens to be Dasa lord. Saturn in transit is in Pisces aspecting Dasa lord Moon in Navamsa, while transit Jupiter is on Navamsa Ascendant influencing the Navamsa 7th house and lord as well as Bhukti lord Saturn. Almost all the conditions apply very well to this case.

Chart 2: Female: Born June 22, 1954 at 9h. 20m. at 28 N 40, 77 E 13 with a balance of 4 years 11 months 5 days of Rahu Dasa at birth.
chart2

In Chart 2, marriage took place on January 28, 1980 in Mercury Bhukti of Saturn Dasa. The Dasa and Bhukti lord are in Shashtashtaka or 6-8 positions in the Navamsa. The Bhukti lord Mercury is also the 7th lord in Navamsa. He is the Atmakaraka as well.

Transit Saturn was in Virgo in the Navamsa 7th house which also happens to be the 7th sign from the Navamsa Moon. Transit Jupiter in Leo aspected Navamsa Ascendant lord Jupiter apart from being in the 7th from natal Moon. The transit Nodal axis in Aquarius-Leo cut across the Navamsa Ascendant lord Jupiter.

It is important to always bear in mind that astrology is not merely predicting. It is more a counseling tool that can effectively employed to handle tense and unpalatable situations, especially within the family. The increasing opportunities for interaction and meeting between young people with the rigid taboos of the greater part of the last century against intermingling of members of the opposite sex loosening has led to young people being drawn into emotional involvements. In a country as diverse as ours, such involvement brings the questions of caste, creed and community igniting, many a time, tensions between parents and the youngsters. In such circumstances, an astrological approach in the situation can not only help diffuse the conflict but also help in making the decision. Confirmatory clues can indicate the parents can do little to wean away their children from the involvement. And that acceptance would be the best solution.

Timing Marriage from Navamsa Clues - Part II

The Navamsa chart comes in handy in cases where two people are caught in an emotional involvement and which the parents have difficulty in accepting. At such times, the Navamsa can be examined to find out if the involvement will end in marriage or disappointment. Here again, it must be emphasized that what the Rasi chart does not indicate cannot be found simply on the basis of Navamsa positions. The Rasi, as is clearly known, is deemed to contain within itself a heap or multiplicity of details relating to all aspects of life, not excluding marriage. Therefore, even in the kind of cases where two people are in love, the Rasi chart is the first thing to scrutinize for the course the involvement will eventually take. But where the clues here are not clear or are contradictory on the basis of relevant factors, the Navamsa chart gives helpful hints.

The 5th house rules emotions and the 7th house, marriage. Therefore any connection between the 5th and 7th houses in Navamsa is more or less a clear indication the romantic friendship will lead to the altar. This relationship can be with reference to either to the Rasi Ascendant or the Moon-sign.

Reverting to Chart 1, the 5th lord from the Ascendant Leo is Jupiter while Saturn is the 7th lord. In Navamsa, the two planets are in mutual aspect. This relationship is repeated fa Second time if Chandra Lagna or the Moon-sign which is also Leo is considered. The marriage followed a courtship.

Chart 3: Male: Born April 24, 1976 at 11 h. 15m. at 13 N 05, 80 E 18 with a balance of 5 years 11 months of Rahu Dasa at birth.
chart 3

In Chart 3, marriage took place in March 2001 in Mercury Bhukti, Saturn Dasa. The Dasa and Bhukti lords are in Shashtashtaka positions in the Navamsa. The Bhukti lord Mercury is the ruler of the Navamsa Ascendant. This young man working in the U.S. for a software firm fell in love with a colleague and married her. Initially, the mother showed some resistance to the match but when the horoscopic indications were explained to her and it was pointed out their marriage was likely, she gave in. The 5th lord Venus and the 7th lord Jupiter are not directly related. But the 5th lord from the Moon, namely, Mercury and the 7th lord Sun are in mutual aspect in Navamsa showing the strong possibility of the involvement ending in marriage.

Chart 4: Born February 11, 1965 at 2h. 30m. at 28 N 36. 77 E 12 with a balance of 3 months 5 days of Moon Dasa at birth.
chart 4

In Chart 4 of a popular film star, a Muslim married to a Hindu, the 5th lord is Jupiter and the 7th lord is Saturn. Saturn aspects Jupiter in Navamsa. However, it must be clarified at this stage that simply because such a relationship obtains in the Navamsa chart, one cannot jump to the conclusion that a love-marriage is certain. But where the Rasi chart shows an emotional involvement, the Navamsa condition if fulfilled can be deemed to assure of its culmination in marriage. The absence of such a relationship between the 5th and 7th lords in Navamsa does not necessarily imply the converse or disappointment in love. And as Dr. Raman has always emphasized, no single factor or condition can over-rule what the chart read in its entirety shows.

Summing up, the Rasi is to be analysed first according to general principles of timing marriage. This would sometimes be fairly clear in terms of Dasa and Bhukti. But in some cases, where such Dasa and Bhukti pass without producing the anticipated event of marriage or where such periods do not seem to be sufficiently qualified to show marriage, the Navamsa chart is to be taken up. In such cases, the indications for marriage get strengthened in the Bhuktis of the following factors in the Navamsa.
a)The planet in Shashtashtaka (6-8) position with Dasa lord.
b)The rising Navamsa lord
c)The setting Navamsa lord
d)Atmakaraka (Jaimini)
e)The planet in Karakamsa

Such an approach combining the Rasi and Navamsa indication judiciously gives a fairly accurate period for marriage especially in cases where it has been elusive.

Origins of Vedic Astrology

Origins of Vedic Astrology

The originator of Vedic astrology is Parasara Muni. Parasara was the father of Vyasadeva who compiled the Vedic literature. Parasara was one of the celestial sages because, in his treatise, he mentions - that he learned directly from Brahma and Narada, two celestial personalities who figure prominently in Vedic lore.

Although Parasara was more known as a follower of Shiva, he wrote the Vishnu Purana and left posterity the fundamental astrological compilation Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra; a Hora Sastra which is the Sanskrit term for a treatise on time or astrology.

Parasara Hora delineates the classic natal horoscope involving the twelve signs of the Zodiac, the twelve houses, the nine planets and twenty-seven Nakshatras. The four Vedas do not present natal astrology although some limited presentation does exist therein related to the timing of sacrificial ceremonies. But thanks to Parasara, we have a treatise on astrology for individuals, on the astrology of their daily lives.

Parasara's treatise is the only surviving Vedic writing on astrology that presents the entire system of astrology. There are other writings that still survive which focus on a particular aspect of Vedic astrology, but Parasara's is the only literature that presents a system as a whole. And his presentation of astrology is especially appropriate for Kali Yuga because he gives two techniques that are particularly efficacious in this Yuga. He mentions that the system of planetary periods known as Vimshottari is the best of all such systems and that, compared to it, other systems do not deliver what they claim to be able to deliver. In addition, he mentions that the Shadbala system for assessing planetary strengths in a chart is very useful in the Kali Yuga. These comments also suggest that his system of astrology is not only appropriate for Kali Yuga, but may be different, therefore, from the system in vogue during the Dvarpara Yuga, Which brings one to the Jaimini system.

One does not want to think that Jaimini was some kind of opponent of Parasara's because Jaimini was his disciple. But Jaimini's system truly was and is a bit different; which is a moot point anyway because his system doesn't even exist anymore in its entirety. It originally existed in four volumes, of which only two remain, they being volumes three and four. And the basic explanation of his system must surely have been laid out in volume one. This is the problem; although much of his system has been pieced together from comments made in volumes three and four, much is still unknown because the explanation part is missing. An educated guess has been made in the Vedic astrology community in India that Jaimini's system is a remnant leftover from the previous Dvarpara Yuga.

All of which brings us back to Parasara. Parasara's system exists as a complete presentation and was mentioned by him specifically in relation to the Kali Yuga, so it becomes the only game in town.
Which is why Indian astrology has always been termed Parasari (possessive case) astrology. This term "Vedic astrology" is very recent and not traditional at all. Other terms for the astrology of India have been Hindu astrology, Jyotisha, Jataka (natal astrology), and Jyotir Vidya. But they all refer to the Parasari system.

Unfortunately though, there have been mixtures in northern India. For example, there is Tajaka astrology, but Tajaka is from the province of Tajikastan above Afghanistan, and the technique known as the solar return chart is also Tajaka. But if one wants to practice Vedic astrology in its purity - following along the lines of the Parampara system of disciplic succession - these mixtures should be avoided like the plague.

In addition to Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra (Parasara Hora for short), there are several classics of Vedic astrology from the post-Vedic period which expound upon Parasara's treatise. This is very good because some of the older Parasara Hora has been lost due to the ravages of time. These classics are condensations of more ancient astrological works and are, therefore, very authentic.

Perhaps the most prominent among these is the Brihat Jataka of Varahamihira. He was a South Indian and a prominent minister in the court of the famous Emperor Vikramaditya right around the time of Christ. Since the Parasara Hora was so voluminous and huge, the Brihat Jataka became more prominent in the sense of being more common. Brihat Jataka presents a nucleus of the Parasari system. Varahamihira wrote the Brihat Samhita too, which presents information about the Nakshatras, also known as lunar mansions in western astrology or just plain stars in India. But this Brihat Samhita is more of an astronomical work than a work on natal predictive astrology.

Hand in hand with Varahamihira's works are the writings of his son, Prityuyasas, who- continued his father's delineation and exposition of the Parasari system, by writing the famous Hora Sara. They both lived in the 6th century A.D.

Thirdly, Kalyana Varma was active during the 10th century and hailed from Madhya Pradesh. He wrote the astrological treatise Saravali because he felt that Varahamihira and others had been brief in their exposition of Parasara's work.

Jataka Parijata was written by Vaidyanatha Dikshita in the 1400's. Vaidyanatha was a Sri Vaishnava who worshipped Ranganatha at Ranga Kshetra. Jataka Parijata stresses some unusual techniques which are not so much highlighted by others.

Mantreswara was a South Indian Brahmin born in the 13th century in Tamil Nadu or Kerala. His Phaladeepika is certainly a mature fruit of astrological wisdom which incorporates the essence of earlier works.

In fact, all of the above classics incorporate the essence of earlier works, especially Parasara's works, in their proper weight and proportion, and provide the basis and framework for predictive astrology. There are other respected works, but in general, any astrological assertion or technique must be found within the parameters of these first tier classics or at least not be contrary to them. They are a benchmark by which other astrological literature can be judged.

It becomes implicit that much of the experimenting and mixtures that go on nowadays are contrary to the spirit, if not the letter, of the classics which have their origin, in the ultimate issue, with the celestial Parasara and his celestial teachers. The classics expound upon and summarize the essence of Parasara.

Types of Houses - Upachaya House

Our birth chart is divided into different houses and they have different names too. Learning about them can be confusing as they overlap a lot. Few houses come together in various categories so, reading can be little complicated.

Types of houses
The 1st, 4th, 10th and 11th houses are known as Kendra houses. They are the cornerstone of your life. They are directly connected the very personal side of yours. Houses 1, 5, and 9 are the Trikona or Trine houses. These trikona houses are also known as Dharma houses. Houses 3, 6, 11 and 10 are the Upachaya houses or "houses of growth". Upachaya means prosperity. These houses store those factors which can bring prosperity to your life. These houses feature those matters which has the capability to grow until you get moksha. Houses 6, 8 and 12 are the Dustana houses or houses of negative factors. The 6th house is also known as Artha house means a house which brings wealth. These houses deal with work and service through which you can make wealth. The 8th and 12th house is also known as Moksha houses. These houses represent the mysterious matters like death and moksha. Houses 2,5,8 and 11 are the Panapara houses. Panapara means related to wealth. Houses 3,6,9 and 12 are called the Apoklima houses. Apoklima actually means houses on the slopes. The deal with expenses. The 2nd and the 7th  house are known as the Maraka houses, and it deals with those matters which can be fatal.

Major features of houses
Third house
Siblings, siblings like relatives, neighbours, willpower, courage, initiative, self -efforts, business ideas, short courses, short studies, intellectual projects, communications, short journeys, writing and communicative capability

Sixth house
Competitions, health, financial liabilities, enemies, competitors, maternal uncles, service, employees,  service, and  litigation

Tenth house
Social status, career, livelihood, bosses, promotion, name and  fame, honour, rulers, employer, foreign settlements and  ambition

Eleventh house
Friendships, collective projects, long-term associations, elder siblings,  children, youth groups, hopes, wishes, and gains

The above-said matters do have the potential to grow always in your life if you put enough effort.
During the dasa of the lords of these houses, you will go through many events which trigger your growth. For eg: An Aries ascendant will get enough opportunities for his growth during his Mercury and Saturn dasa. Mercury is the ruler of his 3rd and 6th houses. Saturn is the ruler of 10th and 11th houses.

So, Aries ascendant, all dasas are crucial, but no matter what age he is in, he should give his level best in Mercury and Saturn dasa , then he will reap a lot of good results.

Table 1: Represents the Ascendants and the signs in Upachaya houses.

Table 1

The same effect can come up during the dasa of the planet placed in these upachaya houses. During his Mercury Mahadasa and various Mercury Antardasas, he will get chances to interact closely with his siblings. Placement, conjunction, and aspect of Mercury are very important. During this
Mahadasa and Antardasa of this planet, he will get opportunities to learn a lot of new skills. All that mentioned in the 3rd and 6th house will happen during this time period.

If he is vigilant he will have a great time, or he can lay the foundation for a good future as the 6th house of work and colleagues are also activated. The 3rd house and 6th house deals a lot with studies, responsibilities, work, financial liabilities, and efforts. So, there should not be any negligence in these sectors. Your negligence will have long-lasting consequences and that will impact you negatively despite the placement, conjunction, and aspect of Mercury in your birth chart. If you give the best, then the universe will, of course, support you with more positive news despite placement, conjunction and aspect of Mercury in your birth chart. And that is the secret behind the Upachaya houses.

Adhi Yoga-I

ADHI YOGA is a highly favorable Yoga and according to all classical works is generated when the natural benefics occupy the 6th, 7th and the 8th houses with reference to the Moon. According to Brihat Parasara Hora ( Chapter 38, Sloka 5),
इन्द्रोः षष्टाष्टदौरधियोग शुभग्रहैः |
बलानुसारतस्तत्र  नृपोमात्यो बलाधिपाः ‖
When benefics occupy the 6th, 7th and 8th from the Moon, Adhi Yoga results The native would be a king, minister or commander-in-chief in accordance with the strength of the planets.

Varahamihira uses slightly different terms when defining Adhi Yoga (Brihat Jataka Chapter XIII, Stanza 2) and improves on the results it can produce.
When benefics occupy the 6th, 7th and 8th from the Moon, they cause Adhi Yoga and the result is the birth of a commander, a minister or a king. Those born in this Yoga will be gentlemanly, happy, successful surrounded by luxury, foeless, long-lived and free from disease.

Varahamihira clearly mentions सौम्यैः(saumyaihi) meaning benign planets which would mean Jupiter, Mercury and Venus. Parasara uses the word शुभग्रहैः:(subhagrahaihi) which means benefics and this can lead to some confusion on if the reference is to the natural benefics only or to the functional benefics also. If the Yoga is due to natural benefics only, for Mercury and Venus to occupy either the 6th, 7th or 8th from the Moon, the Moon would necessarily have to be waxing as Mercury cannot go beyond 28° from the Sun and Venus cannot go beyond 47° from the Sun. In such a case, the Moon, the pivot of the Yoga, would have the additional advantage of possessing Pakshabala or digital strength. If the definition implies functional benefics when Mars and Saturn can also produce the Yoga depending upon the sign rising as the Ascendant, then the Moon would not necessarily have to be waxing or possess digital strength. Therefore, the term subhagrahaihi may be understood as meaning only the natural benefics Mercury, Jupiter and Venus.

According to Saravali, Adhi Yoga is classed under Raja Yoga in the sense of royal power or political power, and it further requires the planets Mercury, Venus and Jupiter should not be combust and should not be with malefics.

In astrology, a rigid literal interpretation can lead us nowhere. A liberal interpretation within the framework of the basic tenets of the science will give better insights into the results of the Yoga. Adhi Yoga can be of 7 different kinds as obtained from a combination and permutation of the planets and the houses involved.

i)Mercury, Venus, Jupiter in the 6th, 7th and 8th houses from the Moon.
ii)The three benefics all in the 6th house. Hi) The three benefics all in the 7th house.
iv)The three benefics all in the 8th house.
v)The benefics distributed in the 6th and 7th houses.
vi)The benefics distributed in the 7th and 8th houses.
vii)The benefics distributed in the 8th and 6th houses.

More sub-varieties are possible if each of the 3 benefic planets changes order in the 3 houses and some more are produced by the planets occupying different Nakshatras in each of the houses.

While malefics with the benefics are said to spoil the Yoga by some authorities of old, others hold that the malefics give the Yoga but, in the process, make the native tyrannical. We are not concerned with this part of the interpretation. All that we will look into is whether the Yoga can be said to be a Dhana Yoga of consequence or whether it is a Yoga for power alone as given by Parasara.

The results of a king, minister or commander-in-chief attributed to the Yoga by Parasara and Varahamihira can occur and do occur in some cases but they are not necessarily confined to them. In most cases, the Yoga leads to riches accompanied by success. It also brings in some kind of celebrity status.

One of the best examples for Adhi Yoga is of Bill Gates (Chart 1).
Chart 1: Bill Gates:Born October 28, 1955 at 21h.25m at Seattle(47N 48, 122W19) with a balance of 9 months 21 days of Saturn Dasa at birth.
Chart 1

The Moon is in the 10th house. The text book positions of benefics in the 6th,»7th and 8th from the Moon are present. Jupiter is in the 6th, Mercury in the 7th and Venus in the 8th. This by itself constitutes a full-fledged Adhi Yoga. However, what adds to its strength manifold is that the Moon as the Dhanadhipati (ruler of the 2nd house or the house of finances) is waxing and in the 10th from the Ascendant.

Bill Gates' operating system "Windows" has made him one of the richest men in the world. The Ascendant lord Mercury who is a signatory to the Adhi Yoga is in his sign of exaltation which fortifies the Adhi Yoga. Mercury as Ascendant lord further benefits from the fact of being with the Labhadhipati (lord of gains) 11th cum 6th lord Mars. Mars as 11th lord is in mutual aspect with the 2nd lord Moon producing a Sasi-Mangala Yoga, a Yoga primarily for financial prosperity. Jupiter occupies Leo in a friendly sign while Venus occupies his Moolatrikona sign. The Adhi Yoga draws strength from several factors, including the extremely powerful Ascendant which itself is Vargottama and whose lord Mercury is the center of a Panchamapurusha Yoga

Chart 2: Male:Born October 22, 1982 at 11h.28m.(IST) at 26 N 39, 84 E 55 with a balance of 4 years 3 months 1 day of Saturn Dasa
Chart 2

Chart 2 is of a young man hailing from a very modest background from a joint family comprising him, his wife, his parents as also three elder brothers and their wives. The family had always a tough time balancing the budget with the combined meagre salaries of the menfolk not adding up to much. Infact, the native paid his way through college by giving tuitions, working as a computer operator in an NGO with his take home pay being Rs.6000 per month. The family's means were so limited they would go to a neighbor's to watch TV since they could not afford one of their own. The native hit the jackpot when he bagged the prize money of a boggling five crore rupees overnight in a TV quiz show.

The Ascendant Sagittarius has its ruler Jupiter in the 10th, a Kendra, which helps the chart gain foundational strength. Next, the Moon in Pisces in the 4th has Digbala and being aspected by his sign-dispositor Jupiter gets fortified. The Adhi Yoga forming planets Venus, Jupiter and Mercury are in the 6th, 7th and 8th respectively from the Moon which fits with the textbook definition of the Yoga. This sudden stroke of financial luck came on October 24, 2011 with the pivot of the Yoga, namely, the Moon being the 8th lord with the 8th house ruling legacies, windfalls etc. Coming to the Dasa it was in Venus Dasa, Venus Bhukti (February 2009 to June 2012). Venus is in the 6th from the Moon and a signatory to the Adhi Yoga. What we may additionally note is the fact Venus is the 11th lord (Labhadhipati) placed in the 9th (Bhagyastana or house of fortune) in an exchange of signs with 9th lord Neechabhaga Sun which is also a powerful Dhana Yoga.

Adhi Yoga II

Michael Jackson's horoscope (Chart 3) is a perfect example of the kind of results Adhi Yoga can produce in terms of riches and celebrity status.

Chart 3: Michael Jackson: Born August 29, 1958, at 19h.33m.at Gary (41 N 36, 87 W 21) with a balance of 12 years 3 months 21 days of Jupiter Dasa at birth.
Chart 3

The Moon occupies the Ascendant Aquarius withVenus in the 6th and Mercury in the 7th from him. Mercury is the 5th lord and Venus, the 9th lord and Yogakaraka. Jackson occupied an unrivalled place in the world of music with his earnings running into millions of dollars through his albums and performances.

The Sun in the 7th from the Moon is good in that it gives Pakshabala or digital strength to the Moon, the centre of the Adhi Yoga. Secondly being Vargottama and in his own sign Leo, the Sun gains strength which he imparts to the Moon benefiting the latter. Mercury in the 7th from the Moon is retrograde which makes him extra strong. Venus in the 6th from the Moon is free of combustion and as a Yogakaraka for both the Ascendant and the Moon-sign acquires two-fold strength to shower his benefic influence on the chart augmenting the Adhi Yoga manifold.

Jackson's chart does not have Jupiter in either the 6th, 7th or the 8th from the Moon which is a requirement for the Yoga to be a full-fledged one. However, it is seen that even two of the benefics in the specified positions from the Moon can generate the Yoga which may described as a partial Adhi Yoga. In most of the cases, it is rare that all the 3 benefics Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are involved.
The important point to note in is the digital strength of the Moon as an absolutely necessary factor for the Yoga to be present. So, in most cases of Adhi Yoga, the Moon would be either moving towards the Full Moon phase itself or just moving out of this phase.

The important point to note in this context is the digital strength of the Moon as an absolutely necessary factor for the Yoga to be present. So, in most cases of Adhi Yoga, the Moon would be either moving towards the Full Moon phase itself or just moving out of this phase.

In other words what the Yoga requires is the digital strength of the Moon when automatically, Mercury and Venus cannot but occupy the 6th, 7th or the 8th from the Moon as these two planets cannot really get away too far from the Sun. Additionally, Jupiter's inclusion in the Yoga adds to the totality of its magnitude and strength.

When the Moon has waxing strength, the element of luck assumes significance in the life of the native. This is a general rule in predictive astrology. This kind of strength of the Moon has been given in all classical works as an Arishtabhanga influence or capable of keeping evil at bay and as strengthening the chart as a whole. Jataka Parijata (Chapter IV, Sloka 72) says when:
चन्द्रः संपूर्णगात्रस्तु  सर्वारिष्टहन्ता
That when the Moon has his digits full (waxing strength), he becomes a destroyer of all evil.
And this is also what Adhi Yoga which, by definition, is centred in a Moon with digital strength does. Though the classical works attribute royal power (kingship), political position (ministership) or military authority (commander-in-chief) to the Yoga, these results need not necessarily accrue as a study of several cases of Adhi Yoga has shown. The results of the Yoga are basically riches and the clout and status that money can bring with it.

Pancha Mahapurush Yoga

At the time of birth when anyone among these planets, Mercury, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn are situated in their own sign or in their exaltation sign in a Kendra house, from the Lagna (Ascendant) or from the Moon, Pancha MahaPurusha yoga is formed. These planets have to be in Kendra either from Lagna or from Moon. The Sun and Moon do not give this yoga. They both are an illuminating planet and Panch MahaPurush yoga planets are non-luminous.

Pancha MahaPurusha yoga represents the prosperity in life. The Pancha Mahapurusha yoga is formed by five major MahaPurusha yoga. They are,
Bhadra Yoga
Ruchak Yoga
Hansa Yoga
Malavya Yoga
Sasa Yoga

The different planet gives different yogas and the results also will vary.
Mercury: Virgo, Gemini : Bhadra
Mars: Aries, Scorpio, Capricorn: Ruchaka
Venus: Taurus, Libra, Pisces: Malavya
Jupiter : Sagittarius, Pisces, Cancer: Hansa
Saturn: Capricorn, Aquarius, Libra : Sasa

The main signal for a powerful PanchaMahapurush yoga is that these planets should not be afflicted.

Bhadra  Yoga
Bhadra yoga forms when Mercury is in either Gemini or Virgo as its own sign or exaltation signs.
Mercury is the planet of communication and analysis. It is also the planet of intellect and studies. Panchmaha Purush yoga created by Mercury is called Bhadra. When Bhadra yoga is seen in a chart, the whatever indicated by Mercury has a positive influence. This person will get a lot of good opportunities to get good results from intelligence, education, communication, travels and younger cousins and siblings

Ruchaka Yoga
Ruchaka yoga is formed when Mars is in Kendra in its own Scorpio and in exalted Capricorn or Aries. Mars signifies courage, confidence, younger brothers, land, army and ambition. When Mars forms this yoga, this person will have a lot of positive effects from whatever Mars indicates. They will have good health and they will be health conscious too.

Malavya Yoga
Malavya yoga is formed when the planet Venus owns Taurus and Libra and the exalted Pisces
Venus indicates, beauty, love, money, fine arts,  luxury and balance in the relationships. This is a good yoga for marital pleasures, happiness, and luxurious life. A person with Malavya yoga should get good experiences from relationships and he will have good negotiation skills. A person with this yoga is supposed to be good looking and live a luxurious life.

Hamsa Yoga
Hamsa yoga is formed when Jupiter is in one of Kendra house in sign identical to its own house Pisces, exalted house Cancer or mool trikon house Saggitarius Jupiter represents religion, happiness, wealth spirituality, foreign travels, foreign relations, and higher studies in astrology. When Jupiter creates a MahaPurush yoga, then that yoga is called  Hamsa yoga, native will have a lot of fortune and easy gains from whatever Jupiter indicates. He will be following a spiritual path as Jupiter is the planet of spirituality.

Sasa Yoga
Sasa yoga forms when Saturn is in Kendra house ie.,in its own sign Capricorn, moola trikon Aquarius or exalted Libra. Saturn is the indicator of discipline, and government. This person will have an attitude to rule over others. Saturn is a planet for discipline and fear. A person with Sasa yoga will have an urge to produce fear and discipline in others.

The main condition of any yoga is that the yoga giver planet should not be afflicted. Affliction comes in many ways. It can come via an aspect. If an enemy planet (functional or natural) is placed in the same sign, then it can be an affliction. If the planet is in a house, where it loses directional strength, then also it is a kind of affliction. When the planet is in Rahu/Ketu axis. Then also it is an affliction.

Planetary positions vs Vimshottari dasas

More telling factors than Dasas
There seems to be a tendency out and about, to apply the Vimshottari scheme of planetary periods to the timing of events in an over simplistic, mechanical way. Perhaps this tendency is less so amongst those practitioners who were born and raised in families of astrologers where the very family environment was rich with experience and tradition.

Be that as it may, there are more telling factors than just the planetary periods, such as Vimshottari Dasa in explaining events. And the Vimshottari scheme is not absolute even among planetary periods because there are other schemes which, although they are not as efficacious as Vimshottari (according to Parasara), they still count. It has even been observed that sometimes a combination of other schemes of planetary periods have indicated an event although Vimshottari had not done so very clearly.

Multiple Indicators
Surely, though, there is no astrological indicator as strong as the indicators within the chart itself. That is to say, the timing of events is indicated with the greatest authority judging from house position, sign, position, lordship and Karakattwa.

I remember earlier on when I was very new to astrology, I looked at the chart of a friend whose daughter wanted to marry someone, and my friend wanted to know if she would. She was a bit young, but she was passing through the Vimshottari Bhukti of Venus in the 7th. and it seemed well-placed, so I thought that she would. But I hadn't factored in on Saturn's aspect on the house and its lord . Well! she  didn't end up getting married until quite a bit later on. Saturn is the planet of time and delay, so its placement and aspect are also a factor in timing.

Planetary Ages
And that the planets have ages is another important factor, too. This is defined in the classic literature. For example, the Sun is 50 years old, relatively speaking. In my chart, the Sun sits in the ascendant in Cancer, a sign which relates to beaches, ocean fronts and crabs. I live about 40 miles from a port town which doubles up as a nice beach town where we had an apartment, a block from the beach. Just after I turned 50,1 fancied going there and spend a year of my life in the apartment, where I was exposed to the sandy beach, the Sun, the ocean and crabs. When an individual reaches the age of a planet, the indications of that planet tend to manifest in his or her life.

Also, there are events which occur at certain times during one's life according to the timing of the planets in their houses, signs, lordships and Karakattwa and these events can take place without there being a corresponding Dasa or planetary period to frankly indicate it. When such events come to the attention of an astrologer, they can communicate that a certain planet's Karma is becoming activated and suggest that other indications of that planet will be manifesting soon. As such, they can be called indicator events.

Paul McCartney's Venus Dasa
For example, the horoscope of the Beatle Paul McCartney (Chart I) is puzzling with regard to the moment of Paul's transition from a humble status to a life of fame, great success and wealth. His Venus Dasa began on the last day of 1956 and continued until 1976. It encompassed all of Paul's positive Beatle Karma and his success with his later band, Wings. The question is - why did it take 6 years or so from 1957 until the end of 1963 and the beginning of 1964 - for this great transition to take place?
Chart 1

Before the transition to success, Paul passed through the Bhuktis of Venus-Venus Venus-Sun and Venus-Moon as the member of a rock and roll band which had achieved nothing more than a decent amount of regional fame; and his financial situation was quite bad during those years.

And how could it be that the same major planetary period which oversaw a lack of success and finances for an extended period of years also oversaw the years of a life of fame, status and wealth? A major planetary period which encompasses such extremes for such long periods of time cannot be deterministic in an absolute way, in and of itself. Either things are or they aren't To tell the truth, the major planetary period of Venus failed to indicate two extremes, although it did indicate his involvement in music per se.

Negative Lord for Leo
Venus itself is a negative lord of houses when Leo rises, so simply put, the influence of Venus as lord of the Dasa was not enough to bring about the Beatle Karma of fame, success and wealth. It wasn't Venus that got the job done, and this goes double for the initial Bhukti of Venus in Venus Dasa.

One understanding that we can walk away with is that the Raja yoga super fame millionaire results of the chart were able to manifest through the Dasa of Venus, and this is largely due to the fact that Venus indicated his involvement with music. But Venus did not indicate his level of success and wealth.

The Sun seems to be Paul's most powerful planet as he owns the Ascendant, and sits in the best house for occupation, the 11th. But although the Venus-Sun Bhukti was positive for Paul and other Beatles, it did not at all bring about the powerful Beatle Karma, not at all. So it may be noted that not even the Venus Dasa coupled with such a strong Bhukti lord as the Sun could make Paul the man that he became.

The Moon occupies the evil 12th house in his own sign, but it was, of course, such a new Moon that it had no strength to life Paul up. The Venus Moon period was a  disaster in its performance due to the loss of a fifth Beatle Stu Sutcliff who passed away due to cerebral hemorrhage. The band had to regroup while Paul became proficient on Stu's instrument, the bass guitar, in order to take Stu's place; and here is the saving grace indicator-event in this unfortunate happening. But how about a little bit of background, first?

During the period and sub period of Venus-Mars, the Beatles and Paul achieved a good bit of success on the music charts with a number one song in Great Britain. But since Mars occupies the evil 12th in his debilitation sign, this was as far as it went. Then, during Venus-Rahu, the Bhukti lord Rahu was able to mimic the results of his sign-dispositor Sun. What was the indicator in Paul's chart that only allowed the transition to manifest itself in the Bhuktis of Mars and Rahu in Venus Dasa? And not before?

Rahu was able to reflect solar results on a level that the solar sub period itself had not been able to do. Rahu may be Vargottama, but being Vargottama in the sign of its great enemy and nemesis, Sun, is nothing to write home about. So again, if Rahu was able to reflect the outstanding results of his solar sign lord, why hadn't such results manifested in the Sun Bhukti itself ?

Saturnine Clue
One indicator was the "event" or happening, of Paul's taking up the lower-pitch bass guitar, which corresponds to Saturnine influence because Saturn is the planet of the bass cleft. The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., had a display for the longest time called 'The Family of the Sun'. There, a person could hear through a headphone the radiations emitted by the different planets. Saturn's radiation sounded like a very low-pitch hum, while the radiation of Mercury, in contrast, was at such a high pitch that it almost sounded like a whistle.

Notice that Saturn sits in the artistic and musical sign of Taurus in the house of profession. In other words, Paul's is the chart of a super Beatle who plays the bass guitar as a profession. As long as Paul did not play the bass, it was as if to say that the puzzle was not complete. Thus, the chart did not open up the floodgates of its unique Karma. (After his Beatle years, he did come to play other instruments on stage, more than as a Beatle. But those years were not like the Beatle years, and he had already achieved his main fame and success)

The reader should know that Saturn truly is another of Paul's great planets who indicates a personality of great success, influence and wealth. That Paul took up the bass guitar was an event that was indicative of the fact that Saturn's tremendous results were starting to manifest.

This happened irrespective of the Dasa of Venus or of the Bhukti of Rahu, because Saturn doesn't directly influence either of these planets. And things were no different in the Yogini scheme because the Rahu Dasa was in effect in the Yogini scheme, too. So it is seen even in the timing of events, indications of the chart itself are more indicative and wholly accurate than Vimshottari Dasa is.

It could also be interpreted that, earlier on, being member of a rock and roll band was a way for Paul and the other Beatles, still adolescents, to have fun and make a little spending money for recreation. However, just a bit prior to their success, the Beatles contracted a manager and their attitudes and demeanor took on a more professional aspect. That Paul became more serious about his music as a profession was just another indication that the influence of Saturn was beginning to manifest (because Saturn occupies the house of profession as a very serious planet). Also, Paul was coming into the professional and working period of his life, even age-wise, so Saturn's results had to begin manifesting.

Of course, for an astrologer to interpret in this way is not always practical, because the astrologer would need to have intimate insight into the life of the native of the chart. But this example just goes to show that there are indications of events and of timing that are found in the chart itself, but that are not evident in the planetary periods. We always have to understand timing through the chart itself as much as by the planetary periods or even more so.

Ginger Roger
Just to add some icing to the cake, let's see one more example from the horoscope of Ginger Rogers (Chart 2). Firstly, the mother of Ginger Rogers had constantly trained and cultivated her as an actress, dancer and on-stage performer ever since she was a little girl of six years . By the time Ginger was thirteen, she was traveling with her mother by train from city to city to perform as a vaudeville entertainer. After some time, her mother was able to arrange interviews with important people in the theater and entertainment industry. Eventually, her mother took the girl to Hollywood where she got the young lady some parts in films and carried out the role of the girl's agent and manager.

Ginger's bright Moon is in the house of profession as the lord of the 3rd. the house of artistic endeavors, and the lord-of-the- Ascendant, Venus, sits in the house of mother. So her mother's role is not surprising. What is surprising is that the major planetary period of the Moon did not start until she was 78 years old! In this case, then, the Vimshottari scheme did not indicate the timing of her mother's role.

Moon-Venus Influence
But house placement and lordship did indicate he timing. The Moon and Venus occupy and aspect the house of profession, respectively; and the Moon represents her mother while Venus occupies the house of mother. The professional years in a person's life are-from around 20 years of age to about 55 or 60. So the influence of her mother on her career during the years of her adult life is very obvious according to the chart itself. That she started so early in life because of her mother is an issue of timing, too, and the involvement of the Ascendant lord in the 4th, the house of mother, accounts for this.

Secondly, the first part of her Hollywood career took place during the major planetary period of Saturn; she had already been one of the most famous Hollywood actresses, who could pack a theater all by herself, for a few years or so by the time Saturn ended and the major Mercury period began.

But Saturn didn't at all indicate such success, nor its timing. Saturn is in the house of loss in her chart, in his debilitation sign of Aries, in the Navamsa of another Martian sign, Scorpio! In defense of Saturn, it is true that he is the Yogakaraka. But usually Saturn in such circumstances can lead one to rightfully conclude that the native of the chart lost her Yogakaraka: not that the person must be a Hollywood actress who can pack a theater all by herself! Also in defense of Saturn, it is noteworthy that the planet does indicate that she was poorly paid during the Saturn years.

Even so, Saturn didn't at all indicate her success and fame, nor the timing. As we have seen above, the Moon and Venus indicated her success and its timing very well.

Nothing, but nothing in a horoscope is more indicative of an event and timing than the house position, sign position, lordship and Karakattwa.

The Evil of Dustanas (Part I)

Throughout the entire gamut of astrological literature a golden thread is seen to be running and that is the efficacy and power of a good and powerful Jupiter's aspect. An iron wire is also seen pervading the entire astrological literature, that is, planets in the 6th, the 8th and the 12th and even more, the planets owning the 6th, the 8th and the 12th are highly malefic and evil. The Sloka says:

Yadbhavanatho riparandhraripe
dusthanapo yadbhavan sthithova
Thadbhavanasam kathayanti thagnyah
subhekshitha scheth phalamaryatha syath...

It means that if the lord of a house is relegated to one of the Dustanas - the 6th or the 8th or the 12th or if the lord of the 6th or the 8th or the 12th occupies a house, the significations of that house do not flourish or prosper. But, if a benefic aspects, the effects are otherwise: that is, the Bhava does not get destroyed, but thrives fairly well. The word "fairly" is mine. For instance, if the lord of the Ascendant is in the 8th, the native has poor longevity, a poor' physique and suffers (physically and financially) in life; but, if a benefic, like Jupiter aspects him, the native lives fairly long, has honour (manyatha), discharges his duties (vrithavan) and possesses a good intellect (buddhi).

Similarly, if the lord of the 10th is, say, in the 8th or the 12th or the 6th, the native finds it very difficult to get employment; but if Jupiter aspects the planet ill-placed in the 12th, the native gets employed, though late. However, it will be wholly wrong to apply any mythological interpretation as some are prone to do, when they say. for example, that even though Saturn as lord of the 10th for Aries is in the 12th, yet, when he is in Jupiter's house and is aspected by exalted Jupiter, Saturn gets transformed by Jupiter's aspect which is like Lord Sri Krishna's Grace on Kuchela who becomes a Kubera. True, that Saturn is in a house of Jupiter and well aspected by exalted and powerful Jupiter and hence, is transformed, to a large extent. But all the same even viewing that a Badhaka relegated to the 12th is safe and even good, the lord of the 10th becomes weak in the 12th and inflicts disappointments and also reduces the pattern and grade of the Dharmakarmadhipati Raja Yoga, denying rise to the highest position. For, mathematical strength of planets counts and matters and mere mythological similes like Lord Vishnu redeeming Gajendra from a crocodile, or Krishna making Kuchela a Kubera may be flattering but misleading.

It is with this background that I have to consider the full force of a lord placed in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th. For instance, for a female native, I suggested a simple remedy of chanting of Sri Mangalachandika Strotram and she, who was past 30 years got married within three months. The girl has three good Raja Yogas

(i) Exchange of the 4th and the 5th lord,
(ii) The 9th and the 10th lords in the 2nd, and
(iii) Venus lord of the 7th in the 5th in Chandra Lagna (Moon-sign).

The only defects were Mars, lord of Ascendant and the 8th (Mangalya), in the 12th, and Venus, lord of the 7th in the 6th from the Ascendant lord. So, the Punya was much more than Papa; and the matter was easily remedied.

But, a gentleman from Bombay who writes he was dismissed from railway service for alleged corruption and admittedly lived on his daughter's earnings as a teacher bombards me for a remedy for his 34-year old teacher daughter getting married, even though he has no money to meet her marriage expenses. I did not reply as I could not encourage him and did not wish to discourage him; but, he will not spare me. His daughter's chart (Scorpio Ascendant with the Sun, lord of the 10th in the 9th ) showing she is employed but Venus lord of the 7th in the 8th and Jupiter lord of the 2nd and the 5th in the 6th could not enthuse me, as Mars lord of Ascendant is Neecha (debilitated) in the 9th without Neechabhanga. And, when the lord of a good house is in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th, the only effective and powerful antidote to the evil is the powerful aspect of a good and powerful benefic. And, remedies can be prescribed and can become successful only with God's grace, connected by Jupiter.

For Scorpio Ascendant, Jupiter, lord of the 2nd and the 5th, an intimate and good friend of the lord of the Ascendant is an unsullied benefic. In the horoscope of this girl, such a mighty benefic Jupiter is in the 6th aspecting the 10th but not the 7th or the 9th so that she is employed as a teacher and her problem is marriage and marital life. The father ran the Dasa of Rahu in the 8th for Gemini Ascendant, without any benefic aspect; his Dasa of Jupiter in the 9th in Aquarius may perhaps help him after Jupiter Bhukti. The lord of the Ascendant or Bhagya (the 9th) should never be relegated to a hidden house such as the 6th or the 8th or the 12th. If lord of the 9th is in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th, the native is surely unlucky and unfortunate, except when Jupiter is in the 12th in Pisces for Aries Ascendant or Mercury is in the 12th in Virgo for Libra-Ascendant. Similarly, for Taurus Ascendant, Venus may be in the 6th, as he is the lord of the 1st and the 6th, the 6th being the Moola trikona house; and Mars may be in the 6th for Scorpio natives. But, the word 'may' shows only it is permissive and passable; for, it is far better when the lord of Ascendant is in the 1st or the 4th or the  7th or the 10th or the 5th or the 9th or the 11th with the lord of the 5th or lord of the 9th when the evil of bad lordship is minimized, if not eliminated.

However, lords of evil houses, the 6th or the 8th or the 12th may and even must be in the 3rd or the 6th or the 8th or the 12th. Jupiter, though a benefic by nature, is malefic by the lordship of the 3rd and the 12th for Capricorn Ascendant and of the 3rd and the 6th for Libra Ascendant. In such cases, Jupiter in the 6th or the 8th or the 12th or in debility gives good as minus x minus = plus or a double-negative makes a positive. Of course, the Karaka signification may slightly suffer. Likewise, Mercury, lord of the 3rd and the 6th for Aries Ascendant, and lord of the 3rd and the 12th for Cancer Ascendant may and even must be in the 3rd or the 6th or the 8th or the 12th. The 3rd house position may reconcile Karakattwa with the elimination of evil. For Cancer, Leo and Virgo Ascendants, Saturn is highly malefic, .as he owns the 7th and the 8th for Cancer, the 6th and the 7th for Leo Ascendant, and the 6th (and the 5th though) for Virgo.

How Weak Jupiter affects your Life?

Jupiteris known as the teacher of Devas. This planet indicates blessing, expansion, zeal for the divine knowledge, higher studies, and spirituality. Jupiter rules the 9th and 12th houses in natural zodiac wheel. It rules the sign of Sagittarius and Pisces. Both the signs are representing nothing than spirituality, divine laws, education, foreign relationships, children, gurus and spiritual matters. Jupiter is known as the biggest benefic in astrology.

When a planet is damaged then the characteristics of that planet will have some troubles and the person has to be very organized and disciplined to get satisfaction from these matters. Jupiter has the tendency to bring good results even though it is in a bad mode, but the good results may come late.

Jupiter can be in a complex situation in these conditions.
•    It should be an enemy sign
•    It should be combust
•    It should be in a debilitated mode
•    Retrogression also is considered as not great
•    Conjunct with enemies
Possible outcomes of a weak Jupiter
Jupiter is the karakafor the 2nd house of finances and 5th house of children. A negative Jupiter shows the negative influence on children and finances too.The negative Jupiter will affect ones education or the person will get interested in wrong field. So the person has to keep track on his education. The perfection of the education can come after a lot of effort. The relationship with teachers and fatherly figures can be complex.

When a planet is in weak mode, then you cannot simply wait for the fortune to hit you. You may have to be really very organized. Otherwise, you may face in failures in life. For eg: If a child has a weak Jupiter, then he has to surely take care of his studies and he should be taught the value of money and savings, regardless of which house Jupiter is placed. Relationship with elders, especially male members should be tracked.

If Jupiter is in the 7th house (a house representingspouse, marriage, legal contracts and opponents) the person should be given good basics in respecting the woman. His mother should be very careful in setting up good example for being a woman. She should be an ideal woman and thus create a respect for woman in him. He should be taught to respect the value of his friends and law. Otherwise, he may grow up as a person who is less beneficial for his spouse. He should be trained to have mutual respect.

Since Jupiter is the greatest benefic, if it is negative, then the negativity can be in a long-term mode. It is the planet of expansion and magnification, so you have to be really alert regarding all the attributes of Jupiter.

You must do a detailed study on the attributes ofJupiterto know how this negative Jupiter is going to impact your life. Yes, negatively placed planets indicate hardships, but they are correctable if you are realistic and humble enough to accept your weaknesses.

Astrological Diagnosis of Cancer

Cancer-causing Factors

CANCER as everyone knows, is another name of death. On the basis of our experience of the last 45 years, we maintain that cancer can be cured through proper diagnosis. In a number of cases, we were able to identify the possibility of cancer successfully, much earlier than its occurrence. The natives, who were suffering from cancer, were completely cured after taking recourse to proper preventive, remedial and corrective spiritual measures. Rahu and Ketu point to cancer. One is likely to suffer from cancer if Mars and Mercury, if afflicted, are in or own the 6th, 8th or 12th house.

Generally, it is believed that cancer is a death inviting disease. However, astrological diagnosis if made much before its occurrence makes cure almost certain. Medical and remedial measures make this possible.

The following planetary configurations give rise to cancer:-
1)The affliction of the 6th, 8th and/or 12th house, their lords and occupants.
2)The main significators of cancer are Rahu, Mars, Mercury and Saturn. Rahu is the poison of cancer, whereas Mars gives rise to tumor, cyst, boils, wounds, cuts, operation etc. Mercury multiplies the cells of cancer, if afflicted and Saturn makes it chronic and incurable.
3)Rahu, Mars, Mercury and Saturn are connected with theDustanasand watery signs or aspect each other or the lords of Dustanas.
4)Gemini and Virgo have much to do with cancer, if these signs are occupied by Mars, Mercury or Saturn identical with Dustanas.
5)Jupiter also plays a vital role in causing as well as preventing cancer. If Jupiter is unafflicted and is placed in an angle or trine and is not aspected by malefic Mars or Mercury or if Jupiter aspects the Ascendant, the 9th or 5th house it will protect the native, if he is suffering from cancer. However, if Jupiter is in the 6th or the 8th or aspects these houses under affliction by Mars,Saturn, Rahu or Mercury, one is likely to suffer from incurable cancer.

Is your child facing problems in his/her studies???

6)For all practical purposes, Rahu shows the malignancy of cancer and his position must be properly analyzed. The aspect of Rahu on the 5th, 7th and 9th should also be taken into consideration. The aspect or placement of Rahu in the 6th, 8th, 12th houses or its association with the lord of the 2nd and 7th houses gives rise to cancer.
7)Earthy and watery signs are more responsible for cancer as compared to airy and fiery signs. Scorpio and Virgo also have much to do with cancer.
8)Cancer is a sign which indicates cancer disease also. The planets placed in cancer sign or the position of its lord Moon must be analyzed thoroughly.
9)All the twelve signs of the Zodiac indicate various types of cancer.
10)All the 27 constellations of the Zodiac signify different types of cancer.
Mercury, both in his exalted or debilitated position, is equally prominent in causing cancer. Mercury multiplies the unsystematic growth of cancer cells. Jupiter signifies and helps in spreading fast cancer. Jupiter in Venus or Gemini is generally adverse. Jupiter rules growth. If Jupiter is well fortified and is in own or exalted sign or in a friendly sign without any affliction, the patient can be saved by treatment and remedial measures. Jupiter'soccupation of the sign of energy, creates abnormal malignant growth. This point is to be particularly noted. Rahu and Ketu are the poison of cancer. Mars comes next to Rahu and Ketu. Saturn rules over the nervous systems and the affliction of Saturn may accelerate the onset of cancer. If these planetary combinations are not connected with Dustanas or Maraka houses, there is no fear of cancer. The disease becomes incurable and may even cause death, if the 8th house is not taken case of. The Navamsa and Nakshatra of each planet must also be taken into consideration.

Is your child facing problems in his/her studies???

Cancer Sites and Configurations
Throat cancer: Hoarseness and pain in swallowing - the 3rd house and its lord are to be considered additionally.
Lung cancer - Excessive cough, mucoid, blood tinged or rust speckled sputum - 4th house, the Sun and Saturn afflicted lung cancer.
Excessive smoking, chewing betel leaves, betel nuts etc., are promoted by the Ascendant lord in the company of malefics and which habits may lead to lung affliction.
Colon and Rectum - Change in bowel habits, blood in stools and discomfort in bowel movement - Normally Mercury causes most anal diseases. Mercury afflicted in Scorpio along with Rahu and Mars-Mercury in Aries in Scorpio as the Ascendant lord.

Possibility of Occurence
The following combinations indicate the possibility of cancer occurring. The strong role of the Nodal axis may also be noted in this regard.

Common Sites of Cancer
Stomach - The lord of the 6th house is usually in conjunction with a malefic or receives evil aspect from a malefic. Alternately, the 6th lord himself would be a malefic in the 12th and the 6th is tenanted by a malefic. The Sun is the planet mostly afflicted. The Rahu-Ketu axis is usually seen across in the Ascendant and the 7th house.
Colon and Rectum - The Sun, Mars and Ketu need to be studied carefully. The 6th and the 8th houses and correspondingly Virgo and Scorpio signs would feature in these cancers.
Bladder - This kind cancer occurs three times more frequently in men than in women. Cancer of the bladder makes itself known first by a change in bladder habits or by blood in the urine. Long before blood appears in urine, planetary positions in the horoscopes would give an indication of the imminent danger. The Sun, Mercury and Mars, sign Virgo, the 6th house and its lord need to be examined carefully. Usually the Sun and Mercury together with lord of the 6th house severely afflicted by Mars and Saturn and as usual in Rahu-Ketu axis.
Uterus - The 6th house and sign Virgo are connected with Mars and Venus .
Breast - Astrologically, the 4th and the 10th houses govern the breasts, the 4th right side and the 10th, the left. The Moon generally governs the breast while glands come under the jurisdiction of Mars. It means that if the 4th and the 10th houses, their lords, the Moon and Mars are all afflicted and to add to that if Rahu-Ketu axis is also afflicting these planetary positions then there is likelihood of breast cancer.
Blood - Leukemia is a cancer of the blood forming organs, principally bone marrow. The Moon and Mars, the 4th, the 8th and the 12th houses and their, lords are to be studied closely. If all these are afflicted then leukemia is a certainty. As stated earlier the Sun is the planet for all unrestrained growths and as such should have prime consideration in cancer cases.
Liver -The 5th house and lord of that house need to be afflicted.
Lungs - Jupiter and the Moon are the planets which require most careful consideration. Besides the 4th and the 6th houses and their lords, signs Gemini, Cancer, Virgo and Sagittarius are closely involved when lungs are considered. Most of the afflictions are in these signs. It is commonly seen that in cases of lung cancer common signs are in the 6th house and or watery signs in the 8th houses.

Vulnerable Degrees
There is still considerable scope to further narrow down the field of study and finally trace the exact degree of the Zodiac which activates the cancerous growth in certain parts of the human body. Carter is of the opinion that the 25th degree of Virgo-Pisces (Sayana system) is a common area of affliction as that degree seems to be connected with swollen conditions generally, tumors and growths.

The star Labrum is situated at 25° 35' corresponding to Nirayana 2° 5'. This is a star of the 4th grade and partakes qualities of Venus and Mercury. It is already seen that these planets are commonly afflicted in this disease. There is another star near about the above degree. It is of Zavijaya and is located at 26° 2' (corresponding to Nirayana 2° 32'). This faint yellowish star is predominantly of Mars-Mercury characteristics and is said to be involved in cases of diabetes, especially if planets are afflicted around this degree and are in the 6th from the Moon.

Karakas for Medical Conditions
Sun - Diseases of the head and eye, bile,T.B., epilepsy, heart disease, skin disease.
Moon - Diseases of the eyes, stomach, intestines, face and mind, mental disease, phlegm, cold, asthma, T.B.
Mars - Sores, ulcers, leprosy, epilepsy, diseases of blood and neck.
Mercury - Diseases of the liver, navel and surrounding area, brain disorders, skin diseases, coma, nervous disorders.
Jupiter - Diseases of ear, neck, nose and heart, asthma, phlegm, T.B., veneral disease.
Venus - Diseases of eye, veneral disease, piles, disease of genitals.
Saturn - Disease of leg, lameness, loss of consciousness, giddiness, insanity, rheumatism.
Rahu and Ketu - Diseases due to intake of poison, those caused by worms, bacteria and bacilli of the stomach, insanity, cancer, epilepsy, heart diseases.

Impact of Weak Mars on your Life

Mars is a very controversial planet in astrology. Mars is a fiery planet and denotes the resistance and vigor in astrology. Actually, any planet can be in have a bad effect when it is placed in a bad mode. Even if the truth is that mars should been feared more than Saturn.

The planet Mars denotes one's willpower, courage, energy, the strength of body and power in life. A person having good Mars will fulfil his success throughout the life. When the planet Mars is weak, these characteristics can be in a troubled more. The person having weak Mars should identify this and may have to be trained to use his energy properly.

Mars is debilitated in the Sign of Cancer. Cancer is a watery sign and Mars is a fiery planet. In the water sign, Mars will be very uncomfortable. If your Mars is debilitated, then you may have a restless behaviour. You may easily get angered or you may not be able to use your courage and vigor in a direct manner. The results can be weaker according to the degrees of debilitation.

When Mars is in retrograde mode, then the person can identify his power and courage later in his life. It can be like some delayed milestones. Mars will be weak in enemy signs and when in conjunction with enemy planets.

You should realize that Mars indicates a lot of mental activity. Willpower is actually a mental property. Even if our body is not that much strong since people win just because of their strong willpower. If your Mars is in a bad mode, you will become ambition-less and you should not think that you are a loser.

The most important factor towards victory is identifying your strength and weaknesses and accepting them wholeheartedly. Along with willpower, your immunity, blood count, and bone health can also get affected. If you have anger issues, then you should realize that and try to control and progress in anger management.

The challenges in the birth chart are not for any specific period like Mahadasa. These challenges are actually a lifelong process and you will get many opportunities to control your life. When you get such opportunities, you should have to use effectively.

Is a Fifth House Mars Always Baneful?(Part 1)

Inauspicious Mangala
Why is Mars called Mangala?
The term Mangala takes its origin from the Sutras मङ्गेरलच् (Unadisutra 4163 in Ashtadhyayi) which means something which leads to comfort or is auspicious. It is applied to Mars by the Principle of Vipareethalakshana, an ironical statement in which an object with properties contrary to it is referred. In other words mangala with reference to Mars means one who does not do auspicious things. In Sanskrit, Rakshasa or a demon is also called Punyajana by the same principle because he does not do good acts.

Though this is true in general, Mars acts at times benevolently or at least reins himself from exercising his wrath and fiery. The ghastly way in which the Martian wrath manifests is frightening. In mundane astrology terrorism is generally controlled by him. In natal and horary astrology, he is an important indicator of unpleasant occurrences, though at times the mild manifestation of the results is a great solace.

Mars and Progeny
According to Saravali,
भौमः पञ्च्मभवने जातं
विनाशयति पुत्रम् |
टृष्टे गुरुणा प्रथम सितेन
न च सर्वसन्टृष्टः||
Mars is the 5th kills the new born instantaneously. When Jupiter aspects him he kills the first child. If Venus or other planets aspect Mars, this result is not redeemed.

This can be literally interpreted. If Mars is the lord of the 5th and occupies the 5th childbirth is likely and death is not be predicted. If he is exalted he may do it at times. If the Sun is in Virgo Ascendant and Mars is in the 5th, death of child is to be predicted (Brihat Jataka 21-1). When Mars as the lord of the Ascendant occupies the 5th , childbirth is to be predicted and it takes placed quickly if there is a benefit aspect vide.
अत्रोदाहरणं कुजे सुतगते
सिन्हे झषे वास्थिते |
पुत्राप्तीं शुभ्विक्षिते
झटिति तत्प्राप्ति वदन्त्युमाः ||
For Pisces'Ascendant there is a special combination. Mars in the 5th gives a child through the second wife.
सूर्ये नान्ययुते सुतर्क्ष्
सहिते चन्द्रस्य गेहे स्थिते |
भौमे व भृगुजेवि वा
सति सुतप्राप्तिं द्वितीयास्त्रीयं ||
Some others similarly say that it affects the child or wife. In fact, death of a child is possible when a combination causing danger to wife is given and vice versa.

With due deference to the ancient writers, we must note that these Slokas cannot be applied verbatim. When the death of child is mentioned, we find from practical observation that one of the following is likely:

(i)Death of a child
(ii)Child/children show recalcitrance and cause displeasure by their wayward behaviour.
(iii)Children stay away from parents and go to the extent of admitting the parents in old-age homes.
(iv)They damage the reputation of the parents causing them distress.

This has been illustrated by a few horoscopes given later.

Barrenness is classified into four categories namely काकवन्ध्या (Kakavandhya), कदलीवन्ध्या (Kadalivandhya), मृतवन्ध्या (Mritavandhya) and  स्त्रीवन्ध्या (Streevandhya).

Kakavandhya means a barren woman who is not capable of conception. Kadalivandhya is a woman with a single child.Mritavandya is one whose children do not live. Mritavandhyadosha is often caused by Mars.

According to Brihat Jataka
When Saturn is in the Ascendant and Venus is in the 7th in Chakra Sandhi (junction of Cancer-Leo, Scorpio-Sagittarius, Pisces-Aries), one becomes the husband of a barren woman if the 5th is not occupied by a benefic.

Here also Vandhya can be interpreted as coming under one of the four categories. Konodaya can mean one of the four signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces.

For Virgo Ascendant with Venus in the Pisces- Aries junction without any benefic in the 5th, this combination may be said to be present.

Remedial Measure
For Mritavandhya Dosha the remedy is to worship Lord Subramanya in some form. One can observe Skanda Shasti Vrata or read 36-37 Sargas of Balakanda of Srimad Ramayana which describe the birth of Lord Skanda. In one case I found a combination caused by Mars which resulted in Mritavandhya Dosha. I suggested as a remedy the reading of 36-37 of Sargas of the Ramayana for 41 days and it proved successful.

It is necessary to point out that making predictions on childbirth with blinkers on against marital influence is not correct and leads to imperfect results. The position of the 5th Bhava, its lord, Kshetra Sphuta, Bija Sphuta and many other factors are required. Though it is difficult to isolate the marital influence from others which are invariably intertwined one point is to be noted. Use the favourable and unfavourable results attributed to Mars and then apply the following principle from Brihat Jataka.

(a)If the same planets give contrary results, the two cancel each other. If one of them is stronger it will be experienced.
(b)One planet does not cancel the results of another planet. Each will be experienced during the period of the planet concerned.

After middle age, the son went astray and resorted to unlawful methods of business landing in trouble and practically absconded. The native used to consult me about the son's position. I used to console him saying that he was alive because he was away. The native spent the last days in mental agony caused by the son's erratic behaviour. When the native died, the son suddenly appeared, performed the last rites and left. The daughters looked after the native until his death.

Judging Marriage Prospects-1

A person enters Grihastha Ashrama, the householder's life, on getting married. It is an important stage of life and every eligible person has high expectations from marriage and the spouse. It is said that marriages are made in heaven; yet the Vedic science of astrology unfolds a clear picture of the married life and whether one's expectations are fulfilled or not. The elders in every family invariably have the horoscope of their marriageable child examined by an astrologer to ascertain about the marital prospects and then look for a suitable match with a complementary horoscope to ensure that married life is happy, healthy and prosperous. However, total marital bliss is a rare phenomenon.

By virtue of the inherent nature of Mars, the planet ;of vigor and passion, and of Venus, the planet of love and conjugal relationship, there is mutual attraction between members of the opposite sexes. The Moon representing the mind (Chandrama manso jatah) shows the inclination.  Jupiter blesses the pair with the bond of marriage and Saturn, the lord of 'time', solemnizes marriage at an appropriate time. As a restrictive planet, Saturn also inculcates faithfulness, controls amorous digressions and ensures a lasting bond. The astrological principles discussed in this paper mutatis mutandis apply to both men and women.

The factors to be examined are primarily the 7th house (marriage) and also the 2nd house (family and longevity of spouse, being 8th from 7th house), the 8th house (mangalya or marital happiness), the 4th house (general happiness, the 5th house (love and progeny), the 12th house (bed comforts), together with the Moon (mind) aid Venus, Kalatrakaraka or significator of marriage and conjugal bliss. In the case of girls Jupiter, the significator of the husband, is given prime importance.
गुरुणा सहिते दृष्टे दारनाथे बलान्विते ∣
कारंके वा तथा भावे पत्नी व्रत परायणा ∣∣ (Sarwartha Chintamani VI-48)
The benefic association or aspect of Jupiter on the 7th house and the 7th lord or the Karaka indicates a virtuous and loyal spouse.

When the 7th and 8th houses, their lords, Venus and Moon are strong and associated with or aspected by benefics, the native's  married life is quite happy. Their debilitation, combustion or affliction by malefics — Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu — makes marriage unhappy.

The position of Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th houses constitutes Mangalik Dosha or Kuja Dosha as from these locations Mars either aspects or occupies the houses concerned with marriage, thereby destroying marital happiness and, if afflicted endangers the life of the spouse. The marriage of a Kuja Dosha individual is invariably solemnized after matching the horoscopes with counter-balancing Dosha.
दारेशे शुभसंयुत्ते शुभखेचर वीक्षते ∣
शुभग्रहाणां मध्यस्थे सत्कलत्रादि भागभवेत् ∣∣
When the lord of the 7th house is with a benefic and also aspected by a benefic or if it is between benefics (Subhakartari Yoga), it indicates a good wife. The study of the Navamsa chart is another important tool for gleaning marriage prospects.
नीचांशे नीचसंयुक्ते
दारनाथ्  च कारके ∣
कुस्त्रीयुते भवेजातः
शुभ दृष्टि विवर्जिते ∣∣
If the 7th lord and Karaka Venus occupies inimical or debilitated Navamsa and is also devoid of benefic influences, then the native faces problems in marriage and gets a bad spouse.

If the Navamsa Ascendant lord is the Sun the spouse will be devoted but domineering; if the Moon, then beautiful and peace loving; if Mercury, then intelligent, beautiful and capable; if Mars, then the spouse will be of a cruel nature and of doubtful character; if Jupiter, then good - natured and religious; if Venus, beautiful, fond of luxuries and indulgent to the extent of going astray; if Saturn, of a cruel nature and unhelpful. If the Navamsa Ascendant lord is with Rahu or Ketu then the spouse is secretive, cruel and works against the native. If the Navamsa Ascendant lord is conjoined with malefic or receives their aspect, then the spouse is quarrelsome.
केन्द्राधिपत्य दोषस्तु बलवान गुरुशक्त्र यो ∶ (Laghu Parasari I-10)
Though Jupiter and Venus, the two most benefic planets, are highly praised for happiness in life, they suffer from Kendradhipati Dosha(blemish of owning Kendras, the 7th being one).

घुुन केन्द्र भगः शुक्त्र हित्वा पुत्र धनान्विताम् (Narada Samhita XXIX-106)
Except in the 7th, Venus in a Kendra blesses a native with sons and wealth.

The exception of Venus in the 7th house is due to the dictum Karako Bhava Nasaya as he is a Karaka for the 7th house.
शुक्त्रे कलत्रे त्वति कामुकः स्यात् (Sarwartha Chintamani VI-2)
Venus in the 7th makes the native over-sexed.

Jupiter when in the 7th, being in his own or exaltation sign or in the Ascendant, delays marriage as the native considers marriage a burden or obstacle to achieving his goal. If he or she marries, then the spouse belongs to a good family, and is sincere to the native, but may be sickly or conceited thereby spoiling happiness. Experience shows that the 9th and 5th aspects of Jupiter are better than the 7th and augment the results of the aspected house. When Jupiter is in the 7th (10th from 10th) the native is talented and rises to eminence.

Planets in Seventh house
Sun - The wife comes from a higher status family, is proud and dominating
Mars - Gives a harsh and cruelk spouse. If afflicted, then even death of spouse.
Saturn -Makes the spouse morose and under-sexed. The marriage is delayed or with a widower or one with aged looks.
Rahu -The marriage is again late, the wife comes from a low family, is sickly and the native has relationship with low caste people.
Ketu- Indicates unhappy married life unless it is in Scorpio(exalted) due to illness or early death of spouse.
Strong and well aspected Mercury or the Moon indicates a youg, beautiful and intelligent wife
Venus-Indicates a handsome but over-indulgent spouse.
Jupiter-Gives a religious and capable spouse

Judging Marriage Prospects-II

Chart 1 is the horoscope of a former chief minister of a South Indian state. She entered politics and gained power via films denoted by Venus exalted in the 10th. The location of Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 7th, Budha-Aditya Yoga in the 9th, Rahu in the 11th and Saturn, lord of the 9th in 2nd, Mars with the Moon in the 3rd aspecting the 9th and 10th houses, has made the horoscope very powerful. Jupiter powerfully aspects the Moon, Mars, Rahu and the Ascendant conferring name, fame, wealth and status. However, the self-same Jupiter in the 7th (sthanahani karoti Jiva) and location of Ketu in the 5th (denial of progeny) have deprived her of marriage.

Chart 1: Female: Born February 24, 1948 at 15h.00m at 12N18, 76 E39
Chart2: Female:Born July 1, 1961 at 17h:00m at 51N32, 0W05.
Chart 1&2

When Venus is in the 7th as Karaka, he spoils married life due to excessive indulgence and infidelity after an early marriage. The affliction of Venus by Mars, Saturn and Rahu causes extra-marital relations. Sometimes even the benefic aspect of Jupiter fails to curb the tendency.

The horoscope (Chart 2) of Princess Diana is the best example. Venus, lord of the 7th is in the 7th, in own sign Taurus. His aspect on the Ascendant blessed her with an exuberant and charming personality. Lords of the 4th and 5th houses, Saturn and Jupiter respectively, posited in the 3rd aspect the 9th, the house of luck, and lifted her from, the commoner status to royalty. Aspect of M&rs on the Moon and Ascendant made her very firm and independent. Venus in the 7th resulted in early marriage on 29-7-1981 at the age of 20 (the year of Venus). Mars and Rahu are in a Kendra from Venus and afflict the Moon. This made her indulge in extra-marital affairs, break her marriage with the future king of U.K. and decide to marry an Egyptian of a different faith. The aspect of Neecha and afflicted Jupiter on the 7th, with Venus there, was ineffective to contain the tendency. The cruel fate, however, ended her life in a car accident during Saturn Dasa - Rahu Bhukti at the age of 36 years (the year of Saturn) on 31/9/1997.

In keeping with his inherent nature, Saturn delays marriage when posited in the 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th or 10th house, either from the Ascendant or Moon-Sign from where he affects the 7th house. Saturn in the 7th gives an aged or unromantic spouse. If such Saturn is further afflicted, then it even denies marriage. Saturn us a friend of Venus, but their connection points to a questionable private life. Saturn and the Sun in opposition in the horoscope delay and if afflicted, even deny marriage.

The conjunction of Saturn and Mercury in the 7th leads to unhappy marriage and affects progeny as both are important planets. According to Puranic legends, the Moon, the disciple of Deva Guru Jupiter, had developed illicit relations with Guru's wife, which led to the birth of Mercury.
क्षीणे शशन्के यदि पापयुत्ते दारस्थिते त्वन्यकलत्रगाभी |
लग्ने सपापे यदि दरनाथे जातः परस्त्रीपुरतः  कुमार्गो ||
If weak Moon is located in the 7th with Saturn or other Malefic, the native is adulterous.

Chart 3:Male:Born March 2, 1959 at 11h.30m at 26 N 51, 80 E 56
Chart 4: Female: Born September 28, 1929 at 23h.00m at 18N58, 72E51
Chart 3&4

Saturn, lord of the 8th, is in the 7th with the Moon in Chart 3. The Moon has just come out of debilitation. Mars, malefic for Gemini Ascendant, aspects the 7th houes Saturn-Moon combination. The native loved some other man's wife. He did not marry but lived with her with the knowledge of her husband. The 7th lord Jupiter is Badhaka with Kendradhipati Dosha, in the company of 12th lord Venus. Hence Jupiter's aspect on the 7th house did not interfere wifh fhis illegal alliance.

When Saturn and Mars are posited in the 7th, or aspect the 7th, or the 7th lord, either there is no marriage or the spouse dies early. The conjunction of Saturn and Rahu afflicting the 7th or Karaka Venus create severe problems in marriage.

Chart 4 belongs to world renowned Indian singer. The lord of the 7th Mars is in the 6th with Ketu and Saturn occupies the 8th, thereby bringing the 7th under a Papakartari Yoga. Though Mars in the 6th has left no rival to challenge her professional supremacy and Saturn in the 8th in Jupiter's sign ensures long life, destiny has denied her the blessings of married life. Jupiter's aspect on the 7th from the Ascendant, being lord of the 8th and 11th and himself posited in an inimical sign, did not help. From the Moon-sign, the 7th lord Saturn goes to the 6th, without any benefic aspect pointing to the same effect.

As stated earlier, the 7th relates to spouse and the 2nd (8th from the 7th) indicates his/her longevity. When there are malefic planets in the 7th and 2nd houses and their dispositors are weak, the native loses his wife and marries again. If there are malefic planets in the Ascendant, the 2nd or the 7th and the lord of the 7th is weak by being eclipsed or being in his sign of debilitation, the native may have to marry thrice.

Chart 5: Male: Born May 27, 1967 at 14h. 45m. at 26 N 51, 80 E 56.
The native of Chart 5 got married for the first time is December 1994. He separated from his wife in April 1995 and the divorce was granted in November 1997. He married again in May 1999 and a daughter was born in January 2000. With the aspect of the 7th lord Jupiter, exalted in the 11th, on the 7th house he got married for the second time. However, due to location of the 6th lord Saturn in the 7th, Rahu in the 8th and the 8th lord Mars in the Ascendant from where he aspects the 7th and 8th houses, the married life remains unhappy.

Seventh lord in different houses
Subject to the strength and aspects received by the 7th lord, the results are as follows.
First house - When the 7th lord is a benefic ans friendly to the Ascendant lord , the spouse comes from a known family, is helpful to the native and they live happily. If the lords of the 7th and the Ascendant itself close to each other the native marries early.
दारेश्वरे सन्निहिते विलग्ने नाथस्य बाल्ये परिणीतमाहु։ ||
But if the 7th lord is a natural malefic and weak, a first spouse dies, the native marries again and the spouse survives.
Second house -The native marries into a wealthy family and becomes prosperous after marriage. If afflicted, the native faces financial crunch, loses the spouse and marries again.

Third house-The spouse is a source of strength to the native. If afflicted, the spouse attracted towards native's younger brother.

Fourth house-The spouse is good natured and helpful to the native who becomes prosperous. If afflicted the natives remains unhappy.

Fifth house - The spouse is cultured and religious and they have many children. If afflicted , the spouse will be cruel and obstinate.

Sixth house -Spouse is sickly. The native has to spend a lot on spouse and incurs debt, may fall sick due to excessive indulgence.

Seventh house -The native marries early and leads a happy life with a capable spouse. If the 7th lord is malefic and afflicted, there may be affairs outside of the marriage.

Eighth house -marriage is delayed. spouse is sickly and married life is unhappy , unless there is a strong benefic aspect on the 8th house and 8th lord.

Ninth house -The spouse brings luck to the native, whose fortune rises after marriage.

Tenth house -The spouse comes from  a good background and proves helpful in the natives profession or enterprise or of an independent nature.

Eleventh house -Married life is happy. Gains through spouse.

Twelfth house - The marriage is delayed, there is huge expenditure on the spouse. If afflicted , the spouse may die early or there may be separation

Importance of Venus in relationships

Venus is known as the most luscious  planet in the sky. Indeed, even the Moon is remaining behind Venus when we discuss love and satisfaction from it. Venus is known as the master of Asuras, so there is a great deal of learning factor related with Venus. Venus is primarily observed to figure the status of solidarity in the connections,  luxuries, riches, sustenance, ensembles, gems, arousing joys, expressions, music, and excellence .

You should know that the strong and weak Venus is not great. A strong affinity for lust, relationships and marital pleasures are bad when a life is without love, money and pleasures. There should be a Venus which is in a balanced placement for a good and satisfied life.

An exalted Venus in the 5th doesn’t always offer a love marriage or a happy marital life. Generally Venus in the 5th house is seen as an indication for love marriage, but there are case studies which don’t support this fact. Basically, the placement of any planet should be studied in a personal level. If we do general predictions, then it may confuse people.

Venus, is the owner of 2 signs, they are Taurus and Libra. Taurus mainly indicates finances and Libra is the house of legal contracts including marital relationship. When Venus is in zero degree of Pisces and goes up to 27 degree it is known as the Exaltation zone of Venus. Generally Venus in Pisces despite the degrees is seen as in exaltation.

A planet becomes weak in few situations
  • Combustion mode
  • With enemies
  • In Retrogression
  • In debilitated mode
  • In the sign of enemies

Combustion
According to Vedic astrology, When any planet is closer with Sun, then the planet will get heated and loses all its qualities. When Venus is close with the Sun, it will lose its charm. So, whatever Venus represents will get a set back here. This is a signal for a loveless marriage. The ego of both of the partners will overpower the marriage and marriage will become a source of desperation.

With enemies
The Sun and Moon are the enemies of Venus. We already learned what happens when Venus is closer with the Sun. Moon means emotions and Moon waxes and wanes. Venus represents relationships and when Venus is with Moon, then the person can be over dependant on others. When others withdraw from this person, he may go weak. This is the indication of a person whose sensitivity and sensibility is running in a negative way. So, the status of their relationships can be moon like waxing and waning easily.

In Retrogression
Retrograde Venus is actually very problematic. I have seen this in many charts. This also means a life without love. Spouse and money will be there, but the opportunity for flawless entertainment will be absent.

In debilitated mode
A debilitated Venus also can be like retrograde Venus. Everything like spouse and money will be present, but there will obstacles in enjoying them. Venus is debilitated in Virgo.

In the sign of enemies
There are only 2 enemies for Venus. They are Sun and Moon. Sun’s sign is Leo and Moon’s sign is Cancer. Both make Venus weak. In the sign of Sun Venus will be over confident and there will be a lot of unwanted desire for love and money and in Moon’s sign Venus becomes too soft that he can’t tolerate any negative situations.

Effects of weak Mercury on your life

Mercuryis the fastest planet and a small planet too. This is the planet which goes into a maximum retrogression during a year. Mercury represents intellect, logical analysis, studies, friends, relatives, siblings, short trips, pet animals, speech, mathematics, salesmanship, brokerage, journalism, banking, skin, astrology and writers.

This planet is neither male nor female. It is known as a neutral planet. This planet is known as the son of Moon and Tara.  He is the love child of Moon and the wife of Brihaspati, Tara. Maybe that illegitimate status makes him a neutral guy.

Mercury almost remains closer to the Sun, so it remains in a combust mode, more than any planets do. The chances of combustion are greater for Mercury than any other planets. The combustion and retrogression and its fast-moving nature always make Mercury in a complex mode.

If we need to have a happy life, we should have a good intellect and capacity for logical analysis. When Mercury is weak, then it may bring a kind of unsure part regarding logical analysis. Despite the yugas, life was always a struggle even to the kings and queens.  All the factors, which contribute to a good living, come from calculated moves, so Mercury is the planet which indicates your power to make those crucial moves in everyday life.

According to ancient texts, Mercury will be in a combust mode within 10 degrees of the Sun. Mercury, when it is closer with Sun, there can be a confusion regarding decision making. Your intellect is actually getting heated and you may go clueless and that can lead you to a wrong decision.

Retrogression also is showing such confusion in decision making. Mercury is debilitated in Pisces. There are scientists with Mercury in a bad mode. Weak Mercury can bring the wrong kind of decisions and lack of understanding which can put life in a progressive way.

Mercury’s conjunction with any other planet should be analysed carefully. It is very hard to interpret the results of Mercury’s conjunction, retrogression and debilitation. Breaks in studies are also shown by weak mercury. Speech and hearing issues can be seen through Mercury’s wrong placement.

If you see Mercury in a compromising situation in your child’s chart, then you should not force the child to study. Instead be a friend to the child and try to understand his struggles. If you identify this at the earliest, then it will be easy for you to manage the life of the child.

Mercury indicates siblings and relatives, so please encourage the child to keep a healthy relationship with all. If the child is showing a sense of detachment, then don’t force the child to be with the people he doesn't like. He may not be destined to be with a group of relatives. No one can keep a relation by forcefulness.Put the child into some counselling sessions to improve his wisdom and IQ.
